1 scoop apple chaff
1 scoop pony nuts
garlic
small scoop sugar beat

he is exercised pretty much everyday and competited regualry.
i have heard about some products such as pink powder and oils but if anyone knows of any supplements that they have tried and has worked, it would be much appricated

thanks for reply
he had his teeth done just under a year ago and he is also eating all of his feed and hay without any problems .
nope there are no signs of worms .

it's a feed balancer with probiotics i think-not 100% sure, but i know my horse has gained condition and has more energy since having pink powder and sunflower oil added to his happy hoof

i cut out the hard feed as it seemed to make him really ploddy, i think he's EPSM, he has shire blood?

it's supposed to help the gut digest the food

all i can say is it works for my horse

Have a look at Dengie Hifi or any dengie product, its great for putting condition on. My old yard used to take in RSPCA rescue horses and all were fed on dengie hifi, sugar beet and nuts. The turn around in condition was amazing, take a look at my bay, he was a rescue

Ten years later, he still has hifi lite, Baileys low cal, sugar beet and is in great condition. Oh and lots of hay

Obviously, any change in feeding should be done gradually

Is he kept in or out? Can you give him more than one feed a day? Is he getting as much hay or haylage as he can eat?

thank you for all you comments i will try pink powder and look at other suggestions
he is kept in however is turned out during the day and has morning and evening feed and if kept in he has lunch . he is also on hay .
anymore comments feel free to post thanks x

FWIW I'd increase the sugarbeet to at least double what it currently is and make sure he has ad lib hay.

Also what weight of pony nuts is in your scoop when it's full? Is it sufficient according the manufacturer's recommendations for his build and work? If not I'd adjust it so that it is.

pocket is so right...I had probs last yr with my horse not keeping his condition or weight on...
all this winter I have been feeding him dengie alfa a, pony nuts, sometimes sugarbeet when very cold and garlic powder...
he looks great...has shine in his coat, has more energy and is a much better looking...has a little winter belly in fact and has kept his muscle....
Ive heard that veg oil is good as well to add shine to a coat but it does have alot of calories...
Another good product to use is bailey no 1 cerel mix..I would recommend this every time to anyone who has problems keeping weight on their horse...my old 30 yr is on it as she finds it hard to chew and although it is meant for horses who are old, or ill it is like a mash when warm water is added and is easy to munch on..you can also add it to mix/nuts alfa mix...it helps gain weight, helps with digestive probs and keeps condition....
I also feed my horses with warm water in their food which keeps them that little bit warmer through the cold evenings...
I also use digest plus which is a supplement from baileys which helps with healthy gut movements....quite expensive though £15 a pot i think....
good luck with it....lots of hay also helps...and feeding small meals as many times a day as you can too....
I would give baileys a call...they give fab advice, send you out all the info you have discussed on the phone and send you freebies....

corn oil is the best i used it for my shire horse when i brought him underweight id recommend it anyday try uping sugarbeet abit awell

What is his grazing like? How much hay /haylage is he eating?
Is that feed both am and pm, or split, you could change the chaff to an Alf AlLfa hi fi chop too.

He may have worm burden a worm count will show, but you'd still need to do for tapeworms and encysted small redworm
How old is he?
Clipped and rugged?
Mine have teeth done every 6 months.
