Help- VERY bouncy canter, will it improve?

I don't see a problem with 2 X hacking and 2 X schooling a week. The schooling does not have to be drilling him, it can mostly be in walk even. It can be about feel of the bridle, attention in walk, bending and straightening. A bit of trot on a longer rein, transitions both pace to pace and within the pace.

I can easily do 20 minutes in the school mostly in walk and be absolutely transfixed with the work.

You could even do some fun in hand stuff with him too... young horses seem to enjoy that. Takes presssure off learning leg/hand when you can focus on just hand.

Malachy is quite a cool name I thought... you could do so much with it depending on how you say it... I’d say it Mal-ack-key... but maybe it’s mal-ack-high...?

anyway.. Mack, Mackie, Micky, Mich, Lucky,...

It is quite a cool name, just long with 3 syllables. Originally I was pronouncing it Ma-lar-key , but the breeder was saying Ma -le -key . dogs all have one, max 2 in their short names. Thanks for ideas !
My preference is to crack on, and not spell him, but of course it's about his needs, not mine. Thanks for giving me confidence to see how it goes!

Well, my P.R.E. has a 4 syllable name and I rarely call him buy his full name so I can understand this!

There is a lot of value in ground work and long lining, so it does not have to be all under saddle. I also agree there is a lot that can be done at the walk!

I do think that a lot of hacking and sightseeing for the youngsters makes them more sound in the mind as they age. Maybe. There are exceptions. :p

Ha, I would've called him Malach-I. It's one of those ones you'll spend your life correcting people. I have a Darach and live in England, so constantly roll my eyes at him being called Darack. I changed his stable name to Dæmon, now people call him Damon

I quite like "Mal" or "Chi" as stable names if you want something close. But if you don't mind changing it, the world is your Oyster. Never met a horse called Oyster but why not... Accidental capitalisation

I've no idea how it's meant to be pronounced. I'm sure I heard someone shout "Malach-I" on an episode of Hamish Macbeth when I was a child, so I presumed it was that. This is not a solid basis for correct pronunciation though ;)

Well, my name is a bit of a doozer, having a z in it (Kriszty), so I get the mispronouncing thing. Lol .
With the dogs I prefer to link their show names to call names..
Macs All That Glitters " Shimmer"
Macs Anticipation "Inkling/Ink"
Perangery Code Red "Red"
Wicked Born to be Wild "Harli"
But then I do have one failed non linked lol
Wicked Back In Black "Zen"
Thanks for the thoughts!

For a name suggestion... I like Lucky suggested by Tallyho! above, because it keeps the sound of the last part of his name Ma-lach-y. It's also a nice name for a horse and avoids the superstition of it being 'un-lucky' to change a horse's name too much.
