I hope you can help us, we have just been served notice from our DIY livery yard where we pay rent for 3 stables after 3 years of unblemished payments etc and the only reason we have been given is that my wife does not get on with another livery user who also is the girl friend of the yard manager. We have a signed contract with the yard and they have given us 28 days notice, however the only reason we have been given is "unaceptable behaviour and actions". My wife and I agree that we do not agree with the person in question on a number of issues however none of these are of significant magnitute to warrent kicking us out! Can anyone help or have you been in a similar situation???

You have no rights- you have to pay for the 28 days notice (stay or go) but you can't argue against the decision of someone to kick you off their private land.

Do you really want to stay anyway?? If someone did that to me I dont think I would want to. I would look for somewhere else but I would not be made to leave before the full notice period is up

Yeah im afraid that is the case, if you have a contract ect saying that they can ask you to leave must give you 28 days notice there is nothing you can do about it. By the sounds of it your better off leaving if its so petty. Hope you find somewhere nice to take your horses, good luck.

Agree with all the others, there isn't much you can do but by the sounds of it , get out while you can! Good luck with finding a new, better place

Well at least they are being up front and not "doing" things to your animals and stuff and i have unfortunatly been on a yard when someone has been victamised to go- i was the next to follow as i would put the horses hay back in after they had removed it, and change its waters after they had put salt in it.

That is terrible and criminal I would think !

I was going to say at least you got served notice - I got told I had a weekend once or my horse was getting tied to the gate ! This was in my younger hot headed days and I had got involved in some one elses argument got it all sorted in the end tho

I hope you find somewhere nice - it might seem like the end of the world now but it doesn't sound like the best situation , you might be better off elsewhere, good luck

28 days notice is reasonable. The YO does not have to give any reason to give you notice to leave. Unfortunately for you, it is up to the YO to decide who and who they dont want on their yard. They own it after all.

Forgot to add
Every YO nightmare is people falling out. regardless of who is right or wrong. Unless the disagreement directly affects your horse, its usually best to keep out of it. If it does affect your horse, the best action is to leave.
The other question is, if you were to leave, would you give the YO 28 days notice?

Ditto that, I'm afraid.

They almost cetainly have clients waiting for your boxes too - probably friends of the girl friend. In these times, losing three good paying liveries is not sensible unless you can replace them, girlfriend tantrums or not.

You have been given notice according to your contract so that's that.

As others have said, unfortunately you have no rights. They have given sufficient notice, and they do not need a reason to ask you to leave. Good luck in finding somewhere new, it may be much nicer!

If you really want to stay - ask them for a meeting and be prepared to grovell, grovell, grovell but i personally would not want to do this as you never know when they will serve notice again and you will feel even worse as you have humilitated yourself in the process
