Help- weird horsey problem- what do you think......

over 5 years??? So if he at 17yo broke his leg in a freak accident in the field and he wasnt insured (obv hypothetical situation) TrippleSandH you would expect the loanee to pay the value of him when he was 5 yrs younger...? If the loaner had kept him over 5 years she would def have to replace some rugs at some point .

This is ridiculous of the strange lady to be asking of you! I agree with others that you should just say that he went with all his rugs so therefore you have none to send back!

Personally, i should get the thesaurus out and type a polite but to the point email using lots of big words and techinal jargon that upon termination of your loan agreement all items belonging (those provided + additions) to said horse had been forwarded to the new owner and that you are replying to her email only on advice from your solicitor. Ask her should she wish to persue this matter? as you are more than happy to forward your solicitors details for any further correspondance.
Believe me she wont dare, its a load of bo**ocks. I dont think you've done anything wrong sounds like shes just trying it on for some freebies.

She hasnt really got any claim now as it is so far down the line. I would tell her the rugs went with the horse so if she wants the rugs she has to contact the person who bought the horse.

Then I would change my email address.

ETA In fact it is probably better not to respond if she doesnt know where you are as then she may think you have already changed your email address!!

if she sold the horse with all his tack and equipment then surely rugs fall into the equipment side of things ? failing that do as shilasdair says and tell her the storage cost for 2 rugs over 5.5 years at £1 a week each is £568

ignore her - she sounds like a right nutter - and if she does persist just say you have passed the matter onto your solicitor with regard to harassment.

She sold the horse with all his tack and equipment to somebody else whilst I still had him on loan. Any thing I had went with him other than the wrecked rugs however the rest of his stuff and his tack was picked up by the new owner with the horse. He did go with a new stable rug that I purchased for him- how on earth am I supposed to prove this 5 yrs on?

And how can SHE prove otherwise. If she tried to take you to court it wouldn't get to first base because of the time elapsed. Tell her his original rugs were wrecked by him and thrown out years ago, the replacement rug went to the horse, and if she threatens you again you will be making a complaint to the police and she could be charged with 'threatening behaviour'.

She definitely sounds nuts to me. Who goes after old rugs 5 years down the line?! And how does she know they would fit anyway? Silly mare.

Like the idea of getting a few tatty ones and offering her them...

Don't suppose you have any photos of the horse wearing said tatty rugs? Just to remind her what state they were in. Although might be best to ignore her for as long as possible - see if she gives up.

The woman is obviously a sandwich short of a picnic. I'd give her a bit of her own medicine and contact police or send a solicitors letter. Alternatively, change your e-mail address. Stupid woman - her not you!!

The woman is obviously a sandwich short of a picnic! If they didn't go when the horse was sold she can't expect you to have kept them for 5 years. If she contacts you again I would explain that the rugs were wrecked and the rug he did go with you bought for him. If she still threatens you I'd send her a solicitors letter or contact police if you can prove what she's doing.

Easiest way to solve it - send an email from your moms account saying that you died last spring very suddenly. All your horse equipment was given to charity.

The woman is obviously a weirdo. If she can't afford to buy rugs for a horse she has just bought she has no business having a horse. Personally i would ignore the woman, it was years ago you loaned her horse and you know that the rugs she gave you were done. I doubt very much if she'll go to the yard looking for you.

To add to my earlier comment, the woman should've been present when the new owners came to collect the horse to make sure that everthing was there. Then she could've discussed the rugs with you at the time. Obviously she didn't care enough to do that so, tough. You are in the right, just ignore her.
