I have been given the honour of judging at our local show but have just realised that im judgeing a lead rein and first ridden class!! but ive never seen a lead rein class all the way though. I know they walk around but do they trot together ? or just one at a time or only in the show.
Im going to look for manners and confirmation etc but not sure what the process of the class is?

any help or advice would be most helpful!!

Is it a little local show?
If so it really depends on the amount of pepole entered. Too much walking around and trotting is exhausting lol!
In the past when I have done the local show I have asked everyone to walk around and then trot from lead to rear. Then I have bought them in-not in place order-and asked the child questions about the pony-Did you groom yourself? How long have you been riding? What's pony's name? What do you love about pony? Who is cheekier, you or the pony?
While asking questions I've had a good look at how the pony is reacting/conformation and suitabilty for LR class.
Then I have asked them to walk around and then called them in.

The lead reins should walk round then do a trot to the rear of the group, similar to in hand classes, you then bring them into line and have them out one at a time to do a short individual show again just walking and trotting.

First riddens can walk and trot as a group, be careful if any look too sharp so you can bring them quickly back to walk before they kick off:)
Again bring them into line and have them out for a show, they should be able to do a short canter on each rein in this, the more experienced may be able to do a proper figure of 8 but this may be beyond some.

Manners are important obviously, be prepared to put down any pony that misbehaves and take the wrath of competitive parents if you do so, you will need plenty of patience and tact as the shows can be rather tedious if the children are not experienced the can seem to be never ending:D

Everything as above but if it's a family pony lead rein/1st ridden class then the focus is on the suitability of the pony to the rider. Generally in lead rein they all walk round on the right rein, stop everyone, individually trot to end. Pull in local shows usually in any order. Individual shows usually walk away from judge, trot back and continue in a figure of 8. When all done back out then pull in in order. First rides trot together usually.
