Have just bought a cob for my hubbie but I was told he had had terrible leg mites in the summer which ended up with legs being clipped and anti biotics.
I have been applying neem oil and all seems quiet but he has two kind of lumps/wedges on both front legs, below the fetlock, and behind (hope that makes sense)
Almost like a roll of fat but not soft.
Is this a cob thing? or related to the damage from the mites?
I am sure a cob expert will know what this is :-) apologies from a TB person :-)

It sounds like old scarring from previous mite infestations. You could try Flamazine cream from your vet, combined with Dectomax injections.
Although my mare's legs are the best they've ever been since she has been on Prascend.

Didn't realise leg mites could cause such damage.

Fraid so! My old cob mare and shire both had horrendous scar tissue. We had to keep their legs clipped all the time and tried everything from dectomax injections to neem oil.
The most relief they ever seemed to get was surprisingly from homemade remedies using neem oil, german chamomile and peppermint, but I sadly never quite managed to cure it completely.

Sorry - just realised how this comes across! My 2 were very bad by the time they came to me - I'm sure your cob will be fine as it sounds like you're really on the ball with it!! :)
