I am hoping to get out with my boy this Summer in low level jumping, dressage and also perhaps some showing (I have no experience of showing at all). Mr Darcy is around 16.2h, 4.5yrs gelding in the sig below. He is backed and is now beginning to be schooled on ready to go out and do some small local shows to get him out seeing things.

He is unregistered, I have been told he is ID although we have no papers. I am thinking Maxi Cob Classes and maybe Heavy Hunter? Are there others he could enter (inc those above) would he need to be registered/papered? I will add a few more pics for you to have a good look at him. Thanks in advance :)

He would have to be hogged for Maxi Cob

How about Novice/Open Showing?

I don't mind hogging him, he could still do Heavy Hunter then also :) I did not buy him for showing, I am under no illusions he will do well but just want to go and get him out and about.

hunter.. there isnt really heavy hunter classes, just small, lightweight etc

unless hes a lot fatter:eek: i dont see him as a maxi cob,

depending on the show also comp horse .

have a look here these guys do shows fairley far up and have the chmaps show that also has classes you can do at the david broom centre.

16.2.hh is far too big for maxi cobs they usually only go up to 16hh.
There are heavyweight hunter classes but normally that is at county or agricultural level
If you want to compete at county level then you have to belong to the Sports Horse Breeding Society. It does not matter that you do not know his breeding.

I would put some weight on him slowly and show him in novice classes. So he must get used to being ridden by the judge.
In my experiences big horses take a long time to mature and I had a heavyweight show horse that did not finish growing until he was 8.
Some dressage classes are good for youngsters and a lot of shows have Best combination
classes and Best Riding Club Horse. which would give your horse plenty of practice.

My backround is in showing hunters at HOYS level.

Thanks everyone for opinions and advice, I am sure I have shown zero knowledge of showing to which I openly admit I have none ;)

I will look up those novice classes to see what they entail and also the competition horse :)

definatley hunter. Most heavy weight have 8inchs of bone and more. I think he will look super smart when he's done
