I recently acquired this youngster, he was rescued from a slaughter house. I've been told by many equestrian professionals that he's 8-9 months there's no man hood dropping yet. He's stood just under 13hh. Any idea on adult height and breed? I need at least 15hh to give him a home for life .help!!

Parents unknown, ?

Looks very bum high and young to me.
I think guessing his eventual height is not far off impossible until he's older. Although someone could probably take a decent guess?
Nice looking lad though :)

He's a hairy legged boy so my guess is that he has quite a lot of something big in him. IF he is only 9 months old and 13hh I would say he should be easily heading towards the 16hh mark but with unknown parentage it is hard to know...

They do say that the height of a yearling plus 2 hands is the approximate adult height... Also he is a real chunky boy, I'd hazard a guess at there being some Clydesdale or Shire in there along side a heafty dose of Vanner, so he will stock out and be a real weight carrier!

Long story short, a very conservative estimate would be 15hh and very very stocky at adult height. :)

You can get a vet to check his teeth and then dependent on age you can do a 'string test' to get a fairy good idea of his eventual height. He looks fairly welsh D esk to me, possibly mixed with traditional cob or similar going on his amount of feather. Looks very sweet:)

Never used it myself but I know several people who swear it gives a pretty good estimate.

If he is about 13h now (give or take a bit) I would approximate 14.2h. But you never know. My yearlings are about 13.2 and I expect them to make 15.2h, one of the three year olds (same breeding) is 15.3h and still growing.

Mine was 15hh at 15mths and is now just under 16.2hh so I would hazard a guess somewhere between 14.2hh to 15.2hh maybe? Looked at the PB link, he looks so sweet. It's upsetting really to think of all these horse ending up in slaughter houses. Yes I know there's too much indiscriminate breeding going on, blah blah blah. It's not the horses fault and it doesn't take away from the fact these beautiful, trusting animals end up there :(

He definitely looks to have some Clydesdale in there, I suppose his final height will depend on what else there is. Sorry not much help. I suggest that you give him a home until he is fully grown and then make your decision, when he would be easier to rehome if necessary.

He looks alot like my friends clydie x did as a foal. He's now 16h. She got him at 6mths and he was around 12.3 then so I'd say he will almost certainly make over 15h. They say if you measure using string test at 7mths to a year from back of knee to the floor the measurement in inches is what he will end up in hands fully grown.
