To cut a long story short... I currently work in an office, have done for the past 4 years and tbh I hate it! The only reason I stopped working with horses was due to the pay and being laid off due to yard owner not being able to afford to employ staff any longer... Now I have come across a job advert for a local dressage yard and It really would be my dream job however the pay is a good £300 less a month and i'm currently in the process of saving for a morgage (still living at home with my parents) now what do I do? Do I just rough it and stay put absolutely hating my days but earning a relativly good wage or do I do something that I will enjoy but realitically won't be able to save for a morgage on ? :( What would yo do? I just HATE office work... I am an outdoors person but pay is just ridiculous

Is it live in, therefore offering additional financial benefits? I have to say, I'd go for it. Life's too short to be miserable in a job. Do you mind me asking how old you are? (Feel free to not answer!). I think age has a bearing on decisions like this.

I know so many people in this position including me:D Id stay put. Money pays for the things you enjoy and the bills and you really wont want to live at home forever, so save for that mortgage;) Terribly boring I know, but when you've saved enough, you can move to the dream job then, another will come up.

I'm 21... I've been with my other half for 4 years though now and we are desperate to move out! I just wish I hadn't been a typical 18 year old and spent the £25,000 deposit money I already had we would of been out by now

No it's not live in but it does say that you can take your own horse.... atm my horses livery is £440 pcm so I guess there could be savings there but my mums pays that anyway so it will make no difference to my money

Think of what you can do, rather than dwell on the negatives. Could you bear to stick it out at work, throw your heart and soul in to it, get promoted, move departments, make the job more interesting, earn more money, speed up the moving out process? If the answer is definitely no, then switch jobs. 21 is waaaaaay too young to be miserable at work!

Well I'd go for the job you would love. Could you lovely mum, just possibly, be persuaded to pay the livery money into a savings account for you? Life is all too short and you don't know how short yours will be. Be happy.

That's quite a good idea actually..... Or she could just pay my house deposit that's would be even better :p I think I need to sit and think alot before I rush in to anything. I'm not sure if the pay would be less though of you take your own horse I would think it is

I'm going to be really boring now and say that you should probably keep the job you have. Working with horses has no real career progression so if you're taking a pay cut now imagine how much you'll be losing out on in three years time. Your mum may decide that one day she doesn't want to pay your livery, or that one day she doesn't want you at home. I personally would always rather make sure the only person I had to depend on was myself. Much less likely to end in tears that way. Plus a decent job allows you much more freedom in life when it comes to being able to go on holiday etc. I am known for being a square though. I was in your situation and chose the grown up job over the horses. Now I can have my own beasts rather than just looking after someone else's so worth in IMO

would it not be another option to look for another non horsey well paying job that you may prefer? I know its not working with horses but maybe it is just something about this job you dont like? My actual job is dull, but the people are great and we have such a laugh which is what gets me through the day. This is by no means even close to being my dream job but I am in your position - saving for a house deposit with my boyfriend, so I am staying put as I work 9-5.30, good money, good career prospects. All very safe :)

I think you are probably right in the fact It's not the office work it's this actual job! There is no longer any career progression prospect here and they have taken work away from us after a long redundancy period a few years back which I thankfully survived! We haven't had a pay rise in 3 years and our bonus scheme is completely ridiculous and unachievable (even the area manager said there is no way we can change the figures in our current job role) so it is dependant on the new people they have brought into the company that haven't got a clue somewhere at the other end of the country....

Thanks everyone I've decided I will stay put for the mean time but start to look for something in office work but out of this poxy company!

Look for another job. I wasted 25 years in jobs I hated and a couple of years ago bit the bullet. Now love my job. Ok, the money is less but I cut my cloth accordingly and really it doesn't make a huge amount of difference, just showed me what I was wasting.

I pay nowhere near what you do for keeping Archie so perhaps there are savings to be had there and if you could keep yours at your place of work you would be saving time and money, no doubt. Am sure there would be other bits of work you could pick up on the yard or nearby if you needed to. You could even think about a bit of teaching ... this job could open up many opportunities for you, or another job for that matter.

Life is too short.

sounds like a plan :) Just my personal preference but I'd rather keep my horses as my hobby to enjoy out of work and earn good money to pay for them hence why Im doing this! I'd love a more exciting job though but we're only young, theres plenty of time to achieve that in the future :) Save and get your house with your man :) Good luck with the job hunting!!!
