I moved my mare who Iv owned since september from a yard where they have winter restricted turnout to 3 days a week and summer out during the day for 6-8 hours then in over night. I was worried about the restricted turnout for her plus it added up as I had to buy hay/straw off yard owner. Was a very hard decision as was assisted livery which I need as I have to work late/on call for my job.
I am currently at a yard that is very laid back due to turn out etc it is up to us what we do. I pay a girl to sort my mare on the days I need but she is pregnant and worry it may have to stop. however I could always leave my mare out in the summer. the only problem is the school they have has horrid surface so is pretty much unrideable. I have ridden in the field a coupld of times but it was slippery as its been so wet and now it is so icy. No one to hack with and she isnt that keen on hacking alone- neither am I.
the o' says they will try and get school done this year just depends on costs.
Am I just feeling the strain as its winter and the weather is bringing me down or do I need a school? how have you all coped?
Iv found a diy yard up the road but it is a bit more and the turn out is restricted. winter out day in at night. summer in in the day and out at night. they have a flood loght arena and horse walker which we can use when we want. people to hack with. no assisted livery but when I asked yo they all help each other. just worry about relieing on people. only prob is that no dogs. no dogs means my hubby doesnt like to come down as much as they dog gets left. can anyone help make this clearer for me. finding a livery is so hard and a big resposiblilty! thanks in advance
