I have a sport horse mare who I'd love to show. Im really stuck as to which class to put her in though.
Locally Id probably put her in Riding horse or hunter but Id like to take her to some county shows and to me shes in limbo between a few of the class types.
Shes only about 15.3/ 16hh - need to measure her properly.
To me she looks like a lightweight hunter but shes a bit small :(
If by a miracle she does measure 16hh wouldn't she be a bit small and have no chance against the 16.2s?
Working hunter is a possibility I suppose.. we've only just started jumping but she has a hell of a jump in her!
Small hunter (if she is smaller than I think without shoes) she wouldn't be right for I don't think as shes a lightweight rather than a small mediumweight??
Ladies hunter I suppose but I need a sidesaddle and they are expensssiveeeeee!
Small riding horse? Or is she not the right type?

Im a bit gutted really as I love showing and I know the county shows aren't everything but I would really like to have a go.
She did very well on the in hand showing circuit gaining reserve champ three counties challenge and champion hunter yearling at the nationals amongst others.

Your opinions (brutal or kind) would be appreciated :)

Heres three million photos just to make sure :)

Not an expert but she doesn't look like a hunter to me, other than working hunter if she jumps, but she is lovely, good luck. Most horses have a blemish somewhere or other.

Riding horse.

Do lots of hill work to build her bum into muscle and, please don't take offence - get that feed bucket down. A well shaped neck is achieved by feeding from the ground and correct work.

A high feed bowl closes the gullet and high hung haynet or rack builds all the underside neck muscles that you don't want.

A blemish can often be covered with felt tip pen and waterproof mascara.

She is too small to do lightweights at county level, your best bet would be if she will measure at 158cms so you can do small RH as she would look tiny in the open class against the 16.2s and upwards, she is certainly attractive enough they do not need to be flashy, if they are correctly put together, move well, ride well for the judge and are beautifully presented you will get noticed for the right reasons.

Its difficult to offend me Alice :).. I always take constructive criticism well ;) Thank you for the advice... the blemish is a bump rather than a mark but its quite flat now. Ive seen worse. Thanks for your help :)

This is what I was thinking with regards to her height be positive - thank you for confirming this. Everyone I know is saying hunter but she is diddy! Thank you :)

I don't know your age but if you are under 25 and can get her measured 15.2hh you could do Intermediates with her. For me she's just not quite 'quality' enough for a Riding Horse though if you shifted a little bit of weight off her that would help her no end. Good Luck!

I think she is really nice she reminds me of my first horse she was only just 15.3 and I did riding horse classes with her only local level though and she did well, you have all winter to get her looking her best and have her going round the ring perfectly by the time spring comes she will be ready to go, I think her weight looks fine she just needs a bit more muscle which takes time:)

Thank you for posting :) Im 34 so way out of Intermediates unfortunately. This was my worry with showing her as a riding horse. Well I shall start local next year and see how it goes, maybe I could get brave and do workers :)

Aw thank you that's kind. Shes not been under saddle for v long - about 4 months and Ive not mastered getting her out hacking alone confidently yet so need to do more hill work for that bottom :) like I said to minesadouble I will start local and if that's all she does then I will justdo my best with her locally :) Shes more of an eventer really but I do love the glamour of a good show haha. xx
