Really need some help to put some weight/condition on my 17'2 6 year old warmblood. I know he is still growing but I would just like him to look a little rounder as he is so hippy at the moment and his ribs are barely covered. This morning I have spoken to Baileys, Topspec, Bluechip and Dodson & Horrell and am totally confused!!

At the moment he is on Topspec Conditioning Cubes, Topspec Balancer and Alpha and Oil and Garlic.

Need to keep starch levels low but provide slow release energy as we have just started eventing.

Thinking of playing around with:
Baileys Endurance Mix
Topline Conditioning Flakes
Bluechip Original
Dodson & Horrell Buildup Cubes

Can anyone recommend any of these or anything else??

grass, grass and more grass - certainly keeps the weight on ours

Maybe some hay for variety?!

Well my new 5 year old that I had just 3 weeks ago was very light in condition, and i was recommended to feed Baileys no 4 . He has put ona lot condition and I also now feed a small amount of speedi beet mixed with Alfa A oil.

He is also worked alot more than he has ever been and he is still putting on the weight. Incidentally he is out on grass for the bulk of the day and this has got to be helping.

Get as much good quality forage into him as you can. Good grazing when he is out, and top quality hay/haylage available at all times when he is in the stable. You can feed all the conditioning feeds you like, but if he is not getting enough forage he will still be hard to keep weight on!

If he still fails to thrive, then get teeth checked and perhaps bloods as well.

Hey all - he is out for as long as he will stay out which is basically 7 hours a day then he has as much hay as he can eat all the time and I have had his teeth done and he is regularly wormed - the problem is that he is big and a big baby so growing and working relatively hard so it's just tough to keep the weight on

I use Baileys number 4 for my 2, one needed top line, other needed to put on about 100 kilos!! Both are now in A1 condition.
I use it in conjunction with Dodson and Horrell Safe and Sound which contains lots of goodies so you don't have to bother with suppliments.
Though about changing to Baileys no 6, the endurance mix but both are fine on the no 4. Also with it being a cube instead of a mix it's easier to digest!
You might also want to try a digestive suppliment incase he's not digesting his food properly! NAF Pink Powder is good.

Good luck.

Baileys Conditioning Cubes are a thing of wonder, i am always amazed at how quickly they put condition on, without silly fizz. i'd add good quality forage and lots of it, sugar beet, alfa a, maybe Baileys number 1 (cooked cereal meal) but i've never had to feed both...
