does anyony have any ideas to help with a bitting issue i have - sorry its a bit long!! had welsh sec D for nearly year - she had an issue when taking her bit out (snaffle) she would hold it in her teeth chuck her head up in the air and run backwards - thus causing the bit to bang her teeth - and so a cycle developed - anyway i solved the problem by using a rubber snaffle, and more recently a rubber pelham - which she likes and i now have more control - my problem, now, is that she was a bit of a leaner in the snaffle but its really bad in the pelham and i cannot get her head up and off my hands at all (tried plenty of leg- she just goes faster!) cant school at the moment as she has artritis so will be a while before we can resume schooling - I would like to try a waterford but i dont want to have the same problem with holding the bit in her mouth like before - i dont supose any one makes a rubber coated one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any sugestions appreciated ( teeth, back, tack, all ok, she is not a youngster) thanks x x

You could try a double linked happymouth or nathe bit. Also see the post by Travers below

My cob used to hold on to his bit and then panic when it touched his teeth. I taught him to let go of the bit, but taking it off as I put it on, so I support the bit and open his mouth to release the bit. When I did this I said 'let it go' now he will let it go on his own when I ask him too.
