Ok, one of my customers pays monthly by direct debit.

This coming weekend she is moving onto full livery (7 days) for the month of feb upto today she was part livery (5 day).

Last weekend I did her horse as full livery but I charged her for doing both days because I saw it as an extra but she is not happy and is saying she should have started paying for 7 day last week not paying for it as extra ie 5 day livery plus two extra days?!

In other words she has paid upto today as 5 day livery and as of this weekend she will be on 7 day. So in my eyes she should pay for last weekend as two days full livery.

What do you think, how would you see it?

Hmm...unless you've got it all written out in a contract and agreement of what you both wanted, it's difficult. It could be seen either way, really. Tbh, if I was the livery, I'd be thinking the same as her, unless it was specifically agreed beforehand.

Ok thanks, she is saying we agreed she would start 7 day last week. But when she asked to start 7 day day she didn't ask me if I could do her horse this weekend. Oh god this is confusing! I don't want to annoy her, but we both think we are right?!

If you feel you can be the bigger person why don't you give her the benefit of the doubt and charge her for 7 days from last weekend. I'm not being sarcastic here

Personally I would charge as she has suggested to keep the peace and a happy yard. Maybe in the future you need to have a clear procedure for this so that everyone knows where they stand.

i don't understand, tbh. if she'd arranged for you to do the horse last weekend, and you did it, then surely that's full livery for those days. if you chose to do it without being asked, maybe she shouldn't pay extra, but if she wanted it done, and didn't turn up accordingly, she should pay.
or you could split the difference and she could give you cash for one day's extra work on full livery, maybe?
but i've probably totally misunderstood!

They all sign a contract when they move in but they never get looked at again. Suppose I could go through it with her. I just thought it would be obvious to her that she has paid me for this month upto today as a 5 day so any extra days as full livery would be as extra!

I think you need to explain that she had already paid for the month in advance, and that any extras are charged in arrears.

I can see it from both sides, but unfortunatly this is an accounting issue, and you do have to ensure that the books balance for services rendered.

Do you charge extra for mucking out your DIY liveries if they can't do it?

The YO I work for charges our liveries extra for mucking out if they have asked in advance for her to do so (when they would usually muck out)!

As everyone else says it depends on the contract. If you charge your customers extra for mucking out on a set day/days that you have discussed with them before then surely you should charge her! However if you don't do this anyway then you shouldn't charge her and just suck it up to experience and think about the way you charge for the future!

Personally I'd just let her carry on paying you from the weekend that SHE believes is right and forget about last weekend purely for the chance of a peacfull yard!

I do 5 day livery monday to friday and the owners do everything at the weekends. So yes if the owners can't get up at the weekend I will do it for them and obviously charge per day for it.

First of all she asked if she could go onto 7 day on the 1st March. A week or so later she asked if we could start it a week early because she was going away. So in her eyes that may mean she started 7 day last week, but she had already paid me for last week as a 5 day customer. I see it as she paid me for the month of feb in advance as a 5 day customer and wanted two days as extra as she was away. Her new bill has started today for the month of March (or it should have if she had changed her bank details)!

Unless you did something different last saturday and sunday to what you would normally do on a 7 day livery weekend I would just class last week as 7 day livery. She owes you for 2 weekend days worth of 7 day livery prices.

Put it down in writing i.e. Excel spreadsheet so it shows how many days you have completed. Invoice like this going forwards should eliminate any further issues.

And she expects you to have done the other 2 days for free?!?!?! Ooooooooooook?! If you're stuck at loggerheads, I would invite a compromise (i.e. pay for one extra day instead of 2)??
