Really appreciate all your advice for the ad - want to get it right. I'm guessing that I can't mention the blindness in the ad? That's something i'd discuss on the phone? Or maybe put it down as they'll wonder why he's cheap?

Here goes:

For Sale 16.1 Liver Chestnut Irish TB

8 YO gelding for sale. Good in traffic/to box. Forward going ride who needs to go to a new home due to lack of time. Great paces and stunning horse who is now working well on the flat but needs the knowledge and experience of a good rider to reach his full potential and gain his confidence jumping. NOT NOVICE RIDE.

£1250 without tack, £2000 to include 1 month old Barnsby saddle and bridle, rugs and lunging/long reining equipment.

That sounds good Stimpy but I would make his price without tack £1600 at least as people may try and knock you down and you dont want to attract the wrong type of buyer by advertising him too cheaply.

I think you should include the fact he is blind in one eye, it will save you lots of wasted phone calls and also then people will understand his price

I wouldn't put "not novice ride" in caps as to me that would suggest he's a bit of a psycho, especially with the price so cheap.

I don't know whether you should mention the blindness - on project horses I probably would, and then you can explain to what level it affects him.

I would also probably put an explanation for the not novice ride bit - afraid I'm not clued up on what he does, but I'd say for example: "not novice ride, does not buck, rear or bolt, but can be strong." Something along those lines.
I just think being too vague about the "problem" can make it appear worse than it is.

good point! maybe I should just put forward going - I've put enough about what sort of owner he needs to leave out the 'novice ride' bit.

Perhaps I should add. 'blind in one eye through an old injury - does not affect him in any way'

Oh god, I can't phrase it properly!

I think you should put this it sounds fine.

I think that you should put in that he is blind in one eye.
I usually put not a 'complete' novice ride. It doesn't seem to put so many people off.

soooo.....

For Sale 16.1 Liver Chestnut Gelding, Irish TB, 8YO
Great fun, forward going ride. Needs experienced rider to bring out his full potential. Works well on the flat, hacks out.
This little horse could make someone a really good RC allrounder - I just do not have the time to do him justice.
Good to travel, in stable, and handle in general.

He is blind in one eye but this does not affect him - hence price of £1900 or £2750 to include his entire wardrobe.

I think you should mention the blindness

He's known to have temper tantrums when being shod though so wouldn't want to put about him being good to handle in general (even though 99/9% of the time he is) as that would bite me on the bum!

good working tho x

Well I beg to differ - I knwo you don't want to admit it but you get him going well as you've got to know how to ride him mOre than anyone else?!

..........*ponders* wonder if we could get jumping shot...............?

I'd put.........

16.1 Irish TB 8YO Liver Chestnut Gelding

Great paces and a stunning horse who is now working well on the flat but needs the knowledge and experience of a good rider to reach his full potential as he is a forward going ride and needs to gain confidence jumping. Good in traffic/to box/shoe(?)/clip(?). He is blind in one eye due to old injury but this is not detramental to him in any way.
Lack of time forces sad sale.

£1600 without tack, £2300 to include 1 month old Barnsby saddle and bridle, rugs and lunging/long reining equipment.

Does he hack alone/in company? People like to see that on an ad, and usually ask!

he hacks in company and alone although again he needs a competent rider as he will do a half hearted nap and just needs a boot!

I think you should be totally honest sayying his good bits as well as bad. Then they will know why he is cheap. Too cheap and a good advert only listing his good side, it might encorage novices as some go for the cheapest and wonder why they have problems!! seen it time and time again..
