Tippy went to the vet today with a suspected broken toe, and £300 later (xrays and sedation) there isn't anything broken but they think she might have either twisted her nail or rammed something down the nail bed, although there was no blood at all. So now she's back with Metacam and anti-biotics (clavaseptin) to start tomorrow.

Just wanted to see if anyone has any advice on administering metacam (in liquid form) and anti-b pills? She's impossible to worm, luckily now on the edible wormers (although still a challenge). If you put it powdered in her food, or stuffed in a sausage she'll pick it out - impossible to outwit her..! And trying to force it down her neck is also impossible as even if you get it down she brings it up, bile and all.

If anyone can recommend a method that would be great, otherwise I foresee a challenging 6 days ahead...!

Thanks :-)

Liquid metacam I usually give in bread that is then rolled up. Tablets I smother in butter or cheese then roll in a bit of ham. All my girls go mad for ham and swallow before they've realised.

Make sure that the metacam is given with food, it tastes of honey (or is meant too) so dogs normally take it fine. Either give on meal or straight after so you know she's eaten first.

Tablets are good coated in pate, peanut butter, squeezy cheese, butter and don't let her see you prepare it xx

Have a few bits of treat/sausage ready to go, feed one normal, one drugged and quickly follow with normal. Make sure she can see the next one in your hand so she swallows ASAP in order to get her next treat

Wrapped in ham all the way for mine, they go crazy for it :) Other than that I just stuff tablets down their neck (great fun with greyhounds with long jaws!) and gently stroke the throat until they swallow. I have never bothered with liquid metacam, I've always found the tablets a lot easier to administer :)
