Hi all,
A few suggestions please on bits.
My new boy a 16.1hh IDXTB is a little fussy in his mouth and backs off many metal bits. I have found that he is happiest and goes well in a happy mouth, loose ring, french link in the school.
However, I have a few brake problems when cantering out on hacks. He does not tank off with me, or anything like that, but I need to keep a really good hold on him and start bringing him back to me much earlier than I would really like to really enjoy our canters. He is perfect in every other respect out on hacks.
I know from photos I have from his previous life that his owner used a pelham when going cross country but do not really want to go this far.
Does anyone have any suggestions in the happy mouth range. I don't have much experience other than snaffles with all my previous horses so am at a loss as to where to go next. Hanging cheak, straight bar??
All suggestions gratefully received.
