Help with boistrous lab!

My golden lab is nearly 2. She pulls on the leash. She has a cage that she goes in at night, and whenever we go out because she bites, chews and rips anything and everything. Lino off the kitchen floor, door mats, shoes, pillows etc. What do we do? We hate putting her in the cage, but she doesnt seem to acknowledge anything! Or have any respect for anyone. Also, she is a wimp when she meets other dogs, and most of the time, she yelps and squeels! And the other dog hasnt even touched her! Its not like shes alone, we have an older lab, and a jack russel. Help anyone?
 
What is her routine? Sounds like she is suffering from separation anxiety and maybe under stimulated but can't comment on that overly as it might just be a case of being a very nervy dog. Need more information.

Exactly my 1st thoughts, the distrction could well be due to a separation anxity as the other poster has said (she doesn't sound a very balanced/confident dog, from what you have said regarding her reaction to strange dogs). Labs (especially if working bred) are highly intelligent and energetic, if they are not being exercised and metally stimulate, they will find another way to entertain themselves (even if this is only the destruction of your house!!!).

Pulling on the lead and lack of respect indicates and a lack of leadship from you (dogs need a pack leader, if they don't have one, they will try to fill the position).

Agree with the others....however our Weimy was the same as he had been left with his mum & dad too long and not socialised...we took her to Kennel Club training classes and it has helped no end! She got used to other dogs really quickly and it has helped establish us as the pack leader....
 
Hi and thanks! She eats the same as the others, sainsburys dog biscuits, cant give her meat as she puts weight on easily, and so shes on a diet. She goes out for walks 3/4 times per week, and roughly out for between 1 and 3 hours with her. Last year, she did something to her cartlidge whilst out for a walk, and so she cant go out every day, as it recures (sp?)

What about 20 minutes twice a day on a lead, if the cartilage is a real issue.
By the sounds of it the dog is bored senseless.
ETS: what about taking her to some training classes, obedience or something to keep her brain occupied without being overly physical.

Vets advise!
We have tried taking her to obedience classes, but shes a wimp around other dogs, and so it didnt work out. The trainer said it might be best to do 1 2 1 training with her, but shes booked up now untill july

I'd continue with the classes but, just sit on the sidelines and let her get used to being with the other dogs. She sounds a very unhappy dog. I would also try playing games with her at home and lots of short walks on a lead. Sounds as others have said that her brain needs stimulation.

I would also look for another trainer for 1 2 1. Perhaps your own trainer could suggest someone.

I would also change her food to James Wellbeloved or Burns. Lots of people have noticed a real difference feeding either. So many foods have too many artificial colorings and additives which make them hyper and unruly.
