A few questions :)

Where to look for stable doors? Has anyone got any recommendations please? Tried ebay but nothing great on there so trying to find some elsewhere!

What's the best size for a stable for a 16.2?

Thanks and hot cookies for those that have time to help :)

I did find some excellent stable doors on eBay so it's worth persevering. Old but solid as a rock, really thick hard wood and all the metal linings etc. New doors seem much thinner and flimsier to me!

Size wise if you can possibly go bigger than 12x12 you will spend a lot less time mucking out from my experience (and save on bedding casts ongoing even tho you need more for the one off initial bed). My horse used to be the worst on the yard (hes 17 hands) in a 12x12, at our place he has a 16x12 and is soooooo clean! Would not have believed it if I hadnt seen it! He now has space to walk round and not drag the poo round with him.

Would also recommend woodpellets (I mix mine with a quarter hemp for bounciness and wee absorbancy). The horses prefer it to straw/shavings and it is waaay drier for them to lie on and quicker to muck out. Altho the pellets have to be kept indoors they take up so little space and come in such small bags that you can stuff em anywhere.

I would get the best stable doors you can, mine were from Cam,taken over some time ago by Derby House, they are extremely good quality ,fully lined and topped with metal they are still in very good condition, despite a fair amount of abuse over 20 years.
Stable size depends on how you are building, conversion, panels or blocks or ready made wooden boxes as you will dictated by space etc. but I would go within reason as big as you can,I have various sizes from a 20x20 to 18x14 and standard 12x12 as had buildings to work with. The bigger boxes are great, easy to work with and if box rest is needed less restrictive for the horse.

We are converting my OH's sheep shed, 6m x 9m. We're looking at block work stables, so just wondering how to get two in at a decent size, most effectively!

Mine were from Graham Pluess (google him), sturdy and attractive. All made to measure so pick your sizes, or he can make standard ones.
