Help with buying Horsebox please!!

we have a non-hgv lorry and we took 2 horses to the PC championships. It was then overweight. We didn't take water as it would be there, we only took tack people and feed. Mums having to take her HGV so next season with 2 big horses we arent overweight! You really would be pushing it with three horses!

i could be wrong but, if i have read the above right, even if your Mum took her HGV licence, your lorry will still be overweight? you would need HGV licence and HGV lorry in your case or you would still be illegal..

A&K thats correct unless you have an HGV lorry. I have my HGV but my lorry is 7.5 t so still can't overload it!

ETA Stilton min sounds very like yours and mine would have been within OP's budget too, they are def out there that can carry three and I reckon the majority will carry two!

I am at West Wilts on the wed. You are welcome to come and have a look at mine if you want if you are there the same day :)

have a look at galloper horseboxes because i think that they have made a superlight weight horsebox which i think can carry 3 horses and living etc on a non hgv lorry! x

we spend about £700/yr on servicing/test.... £400 ish insurance/breakdown cover. Costs about 50p/mile for fuel.

Our lorry partitioned for 3 has unladen weight 5.4 ton....2.1 ton available for horse/tack etc. which is more than a lot of boxes but it is aluminium box with simple living. No fitted kitchen sink!

There are some good bargains around at the moment as 7.5 ton boxes are not selling well ...I have one on the market and am getting very little interest....and others say the same.

Thank you very much. Those were the figures that I was looking for. How much roughley did you pay for your lorry?
Thank you

we paid £15,500 for a new aluminium box fitted on a fleet vehicle R reg chassis 5 years ago. At the time we couldn't find anything that wasnt horribly rusty underneath.

.... that box is now on the market for £9500 (put it on the market a few weeks ago at £10,000 and have reduced it once and will be reducing the price again at the end of the week) as my daughter is at uni and we are having a break from horses so need to sell the box .

I am sure there will be some good prices on horseboxes near you too.
