So this is Mishka! My 16/17 month old rescue filly. She is coming on wonderfully, I can go in a stroke and groom her, head collar on and off (nearly), sedation and hooves being trimmed later today and hopefully out in the paddock before the end of this week!

When she first came to me, I originally thought that she was a buckskin, but she was filthy. Now we are groomed, she is not one solid colour. She has patches, blacking on her legs and a small white star on her face. I was thinking buckskin and white? I have also been told dun and white, tobiano buckskin and just a dun. I was wondering if anyone could give some advice on what colour she actually is?

Thanks in advance

( p.s she is showing herself to be a right cutie ;) )

RE the 'blacking on her legs', you are thinking about her colour the wrong way around. If she didn't have any colour modifying genes she would be plain, jet black. The black is all that is left of her 'base colour.'

She has the colour modifiers agouti, cream, tobiano and probably sabino too (stockings have jagged edges). I don't believe that having sabino makes her a tovero (combination of tobiano and an overo pinto/coloured gene) even though officially sabino falls into the overo category.

Simply put - she is a Buckskin tobiano.

i know this horse and she is unsual at the moment, the areas that should be white to make her a tobiano are not infact white, they are buckskin, the 'patches' are darker buckskin. Either that or the white patches are white and just really grubby :D

Any ideas?
