I normally feed my girls Baileys Outshine for coat shine but am on a cost cutting exercise so am looking at alternatives.

I have changed to linseed in powdered form and feeding according to instructions which I think is 150g a day, however they have definately lost some of the shine they had previously.

I'm now thinking of feeding oil in liquid form but am not sure which. I know Soya isn't good but I'm not sure if I should use Linseed or Corn oil from Tesco.

Also NAF do Omega Oil which is linseed, soya & hemp which sounds good as the Omega 3/6/9 balance is supposed to be pretty good.

This is only for coat shine as they don't need to gain weight.

Thank you

For this purpose use Feelgood 30 Garlic and Parsley oil its fab for giving a shine, you could try some sunflower oil as an alternative, but the feelgood works

You could try D & H Build & Glow; it's virtually the same as Outshine and almost half the price. Wrked very well for my poorly mare, gave her a coat like glass.

You could also feed brewers yeast alongside the linseed, that does the trick for mine, that's all they get along with oats and SB of some description and they have great skin and coats with good healthy hooves. Keep it simple for me every time.

I use linseed oil its great made a huge difference on my new boy in a short period of time.....Ive just bought the powdered version too, to try...now starting to regreat it if its not bvery good!

I tried outshine, but it didn't give nearly as much shine as allen & page calm and condition/power and performance feed.

Thank you everyone.

NoisyGirl I'll have a look at the Feelgood and work out the cost for two - it's going to come down to price unfortunately!

Maesfen I tried Build & Glow on 2 separate occasions and they definately lost shine compared to being on the Outshine. I also found it quite difficult to get hold of through my feed merchant but it was when it first came out and was still in brown paper sacks - it may be easier to get hold of now. However I didn't work as well on either of mine than the Outshine.

Ellie_e I'm not saying the straight cooked linseed isn't any good, I started using it because there were loads of reports on here of how brilliant it was for coat shine and although mine have lost some sheen they are still quite shiny on it. It's just that previously they used to really gleam - my friend used to say you could use my bay instead of a mirror to put your lipstick on!

Nocturnal Power/Performance sends mine LOOPY! And I mean really loopy, I tried hunting off it for a few weeks last season and soon took them off it :D

I'll have a look at the Feelgood and also Brewers Yeast and maybe switch to liquid linseed rather than the ground stuff I'm feeding now. It may just be the quality of the bag I have I suppose but they have noticeably lost their gleam and nothing else has changed.

Can I just ask why you think soya is not good as I have had my cob on it for several years and it has really benefitted him?
