Hi, I ride a friend's haflinger gelding and he's fairly well behaved when ridden but when I handle him he just takes the mick. He's just finished being on box rest after suspected laminitis (which might be part of the current problem) and the vet would prefer inhand walks with a little grazing to him going straight back into the field and gorging himself, but he pulls me all over the place when i try taking him for walks in hand and when its time for him to be taken back to his stable refuses to go back onto the yard by planting and doing mini rears. Also if we're in an open space he sometimes bucks with his feet pointed in my direction, I use a long lead rope so thankfully I've managed to move before any contact has been made so far. He's always been a pain to get in from the winter field as he plants and rears once caught. It's driving me crazy that he can outwit me everytime and he appears to behave for his owner and someone else that rides him. Can anyone suggest ideas for making him want to cooperate with me? I love him to pieces but he's making it very hard for me.
Cheers
