Hi all,

When i go out hacking i always wear a yellow high viz tabard, however i would like to get a jacket for me & wraparound sheet for my horse. In your opinion which colour do you think stands out the most? yellow, pink or orange? my horse is red chestnut and i dont know if i could bare wearing bright pink! im thinking maybe orange? although i cant find much orange stuff online. maybe i could get pink for myself and orange for myself? would that make me stand out more?........what do u guys wear? ..........any cheap websites or reccomendations, i dont want to spend alot on this..thanks :-)

I *think* that decent hi-viz stuff should come with an (EU I think) rating as to its vizibility, so as long as the garment conforms to that standard it will be bright enough regardless of the colour.

Pink looks rather nice on my chesnut for what it's worth!

Yellow stands out far more than pink. Whilst on a hack the other day I saw 2 riders together, one in yellow and the other in pink. I spotted the yellow first.

actually - being the H&S nerd that i am :o pink or orange are seen before yellow :) orange actually being the best

i've got laods of high viz stuff -
rock fish riders jacket - great but not breathable so not good for fast work,
equisafety padded gilet - prefect for cooler days
normal cotton tabbard - for hot days
hat band, leg wraps - both ebay shop unbranded but both fab
thick breastplate - again ebay = thicker than the normal inch thick ones (its about 6inches thick) so easier to see
equifleece high viz exersise rug - i do rate them as the best exersise rug as they are breathable but 100% water proof - whereas i have used the plasticy types and they are waterproof but not breathable to HRH sweated up a lot under them...

I have V-BANDZ stuff. We were: Pink and purple tabbard, pink hat band, 4 pink and purple horsey booties, and a pink bum for him [=

Hes a coloured tho, and at 17.2hh, he stands out pretty far. No one has an excuse of not seeing us [=. Maybe dazzled by all the pink though ...

I really wanted blue hi viz stuff (I likke to be different) till i realised it wasn't kitemarked - no point if it doesn't do the job.
Make sure you get stuff for you and the horse in case you get seperated.

I have the Rockfish Riders 360 jacket and am told that I can be spotted from miles away. Great if I'm lost - not so great if the gamekeepers are keeping their eye out.

Riders hi viz stuff is so expensive!!!!

I got a lovely dickies fleece which is EU rated and is flourescent yellow with the reflective strips on and is brilliant

Think it only cost £14! I wear it over my normal riding jacket

For my ponio I bought the EU yellow fleece stuff and made a rug to go over his normal ride over rug. I also bought the EU 3m reflective tape to go on as well.

Think that just cost £7 and just took a couple of hours to make

Hi vis riders stuff IS so expensive - absolutely agree! We decided to go with site safety wear company and found this one - http://www.redoakdirect.com/acatalog/High_Visibility_Clothing.html

I think that the bomber jacket cost us £11 each and we've had them over 3 years now. I want to order a fleece as well. Hubbie and I have matching bomber jackets and the MArk Todd hi vis exercise sheets.

We both ride big chestnuts as well, so look like the mounted police when we are out together. I do have a bright pink waistcoat with "HORSE IN TRAINING" on the back - am thinking about a hi vis fleece underneath it to reinforce the fact that I am there!

I have to say from a driving point of view I find that the yellow high viz is easier to spot than the pink. There are many horse riders round us and most wear yellow - the ones i see wearing pink really do not stand out much at all. For the record i also wear yellow high viz and my horse has a yellow hi viz exercise sheet. Both from Equafleece. I don't have a high viz jacket, just a fleece gilet that i wear over whatever else i have on.

I think pink stands out better, I have all round visibility one http://www.equisafety.com/

my friend wears yellow and if she's in front I notice she seems to blend in with the hedges and trees where as I think pink or orange stands out more

I'm on the hunt for BLUE flashing lights as I think they stand out better than red, emergency vehicles catch your eye, I found some on amazon for about £7

Have to say, I just bought one of the 'polite' tabards from equisafety, and I'm really chuffed with it.

Combined with my other hi viz stuff it really seems to help make people back off, as it looks like 'police' from a distance.

I use a mixture of pink, orange, and yellow because i like to clash, and have a plain dark bay horse so need to stand out somehow.
Neckbands are great for increasing the visibility of the horse for oncoming traffic - v-bandz do some lovely ones.

Keep a look out for specials in aldi and lidl for hi-viz tabards, and aldi sometimes sell cyclist's flashing arm bands in silver, which fit great round a horse's fetlock.

I think it depends where you ride as to which stands out better. Where my ponies are the lanes are lined by trees and I have noticed when driving my car that from a distance the yellow seems to blend into the foliage. I would definitely say have some sort of hi-viz on the horse as I've noticed the dark bays etc blend in with the colour of the road too!! Tesco are selling cycling gear on 3 for 2 which includes lights etc. I did notice a nifty light for kids to wear round their neck which is motion activated, thought it could be quite good tied to a breastplate or martingale.

I always use yellow.
(except my brushing boots which have pink reflective straps:o )

For greys either pink or orange but IMO on a darker horse like a chestnut yellow stands out much more than pink (plus you won't look like a barbie :p )

I have so much hi-viz, I could probably kit out 3 horses and their riders. Infact I may be a little bit obsessed because I still look out for bits that I don't have or in different colours! :o

The main thing that I use are a V-bandz pink tabbard

I was told that orange or pink is better on a grey but the yellow really zings on my chestnut.
