Hi there

We have a very old horsebox (2000 reg!) that we bought in the summer from a horsebox dealer. It's 6.5tonnes. It's had its annual MOT and I think plating but I'm really confused as to what that means? It has a plating certificate on the inside of the cab from when the lorry was made...but we don't have any other paperwork which would suggest it's had something checked annually other than the MOT paperwork and some service documents?

Do we need to get it plated? What does that mean? It's not clear at all online as the DVSA just talks about an annual MOT and service. I'm so confused!

Plating is only done once when the lorry is registered, or on change of official weighting.

The MOT has, wrongly, been called plating by horsebox owners for decades. The only one you need to worry about is an annual MOT.

OK thank you! That was what the DVSA website says but yes I'd heard people talk about annual plating for years which is what threw me a bit! That's a relief!
