Hi,

we bought a welsh A last year but she did not come with a welsh passport, we have been doing local shows with her and doing quite well and were hoping to move up to the society shows. i understand that because she is not registered we can not compete in the lead rein m&m classes as we have been doing and have been advised to give lead rein show hunter and lead rein show pony a go!

can someone tell me what the dress code and turn out is for these as i know they are both plaited but have reservations for taking off all her feather (which is not lots) im currently getting my lead rein tweed jacket made by pretty ponies to match the jockey's and if im correct i can wear this for the show hunter classes?

pony is a grey mare very pretty xx

Hi and welcome to the forum!

LR show pony would be more correct to show in Navy, but the show hunter pony would be fine in the tweed. You would have to remove her feather for show pony. And ideally for the hunter pony too.

go to http://forum.hamletshouse.co.uk they are really helpful and its all about showing natives.

Good luck

Hey , thats what i thought :( realllllly didnt wanna get rid of the feathers :( i can get a new little jacket for my niece for under £30 in plain blue i suppose but i just wouldnt of put this pony in a show pony class ?!

To be honest show ponies and show hunter ponies are very different. You'll not do well in both. The rider, handler and tack outfits for show hunter is the same as for m&m. Since you have that gear, why not try a few of those classes first, save some pennies and then move into show pony if the judges start to suggest it.

If he is a welsh section A, it's very unlikely he will do well in show pony as he's probably too heavy - and if it's the same little grey in your avatar I wouldn't put him in this class.

I'm afraid the feather needs to come off for both these classes. You will also need to pull his tail and bang it at the end.

Hope you enjoy it!

arghhhh :) thank you,you have confirmed what i thought ... she is the one in the pic but isnt your usual welshie she is quite fine and flashy but not what i understand to be show pony type ... i could see her in the hunter though! even at locals she doesnt get placed highly in m&m small breeds as she not stocky chunky type the judges seem to like!

hunter it is i think :)
