As the title says really...
He is a 14hh NFxTB about 5 or 6 years old. He is really bad with leading for anything more than a few paces. He was ok until we put him onto full livery where a person used to twist his ear and smack him aswel and do many other things to him....as soon as we found out we left!
I think part of it is because hes scared and another is excited and has learnt that he can get away.
He usualy turns and then bolts off or bucks and runs and only ever done a little pony rear once.
We have tried a chiffney, pressure training halter, treats every few paces (most succesful but ended up not working). While he was at one yard he was lead about in a headcollar with a metal nose band but can't find another one like it

and it worked really well.
With everything else he is a complete angel its just his leading that is a problem!

A lady at our yard had a similar problem with a big cob gelding that hadn't been taught any manners by his previous owner. He would barge past you and shoulder you out of the way on the way to the field etc

She tried a be-nice head collar, a chiffney and in the end as a sharp shock treatment she used a stallion chain. He tried his usual trick of tanking off and was let go until the long rope was about halfway out (if that makes sense) then just stood her ground and it brought him to an abrupt halt. He looked so shocked it was comical.
BUT it had the desired effect. He now leads to the field as good as gold in a normal headcollar and has much more respect for whoever is handling him
