I dont know if anyone out there can help, with there experiences of mares in foal, but any help would be appreciated.
My friend bought a mare in december and rode her regulary, until june of this year when she seemed to suddenly look very big and round. on contacting the previous owner she was told that the mare was running with a stallion around august - november 2009.
She has stopped riding her. The mare is huge and started bagging up, she squirted a clear watery liquid a few days ago, she has been dripping milk but this seemed to stop around 4 days ago. We thought she was going to foal - and nothing has happened. Her croup has dropped and is soft, her quarters are soft, her (ladies bits) are long and saggy, the mare is quite grumpy, so called the vet, and she examened and scanned, and the placenta was there but she couldnt see the foal, and upon examination could not feel the foal.
its really strange and as the placenta is there and intact, is couldnt be a false pregnancy could it ? or if she had lost or aborted the foal, then surely the placenta wouldnt be there and intact ? its a real mystery, bloods have been taken, i just wanted to know if anyone else has experience this
