Help with my chicken's 'illness'!??

Our rooster has started making a gargling noise and been a bit 'sleepy'. We separated him off from his hens and he has picked up a bit, yesterday the gargling noise had nearly gone but today it is back again.

It seems to happen when it is raining which is probably a coincidence. I'm wondering if he has a 'cold', something on his chest or something else. We have tried emptying his
croup sack but nothing has changed.

Any ideas from you chicken people!?!??

Is he sneezing? If he is it could be infectious bronchitis, the others may be sneezing too, listen when they have gone to roost.

sounds like a possible upper respiratory infection. Will need antibiotics from the vet if it doesnt clear up.

Most of the time gargling etc is caused by secondary infections during a flare of mycoplasma. You will need to treat your whole flock with antibiotics (Baytril or Tylan etc) from the vet. The vet will need to see at least one bird, and you will need to say how many are in the flock so you get the correct amount of antibiotic.

he may have an impacted crop or a cold, I would take him to the vet. I know it sounds a bit daft taking a chicken to the vet, but they don't normally charge lots and you always learn from them, also he may have something that could be passed onto your others. Have you wormed your chickens for gape worm, this could also be the problem, flubenvet is the wormer that I use. Hope this helps !

All as i thought to a degree, we have wormed them with Flubenvet so that's covered hopefully!
Think i will get him to the vet as don't want the others to get anything although they are apart now. Will have a check for sneezing too - would be the cockerel though!

Turn him upside and I bet tons of fluid comes out of his mouth. Massage his crop whilst doing it.

^^ This Mine had this 'sour crop' sadly she did not improve even with a week of antibiotics

2nd the vet - or if you know them well enough you may be able to get some antibiotics prescribed over the phone.

Keep him warm if you can - my little cockerel came in under a heat lamp when he was poorly. 'Unspecified respiratory virus' was the official diagnosis with him - however I remain unconvinced just how 'unspecific' it was as we were in the middle of quarantine for bird flu at the time

TBH unless you find a good poultry vet then you could be wasting your money.
I would seperate and treat with an anti coxidiant

Coxoid isn't going to treat a respiratory infection. Coccidiosis is an intestinal infection.
