i no its long but im a 13 year old who needs help, please take the time to read it.
i have bought a 10year old gelding 4 weeks ago. i knew the lady i bought him off and went down to his previous yard 5 times, got him out the field untouched, tacked up and got on myself, he was perfect. so we bought him. i rode him at there yard the day he was moving and then brought him to our yard. i rode him the next day and both times he was fine. then 2 days later i got on and he gallped off, not having stirrups i fell off and hurt my back. every since everytime someone gets on he bucks, rears, bronks, runs off etc. ive fallen off 3 times in total and am loosing confidence. hes getting worse and worse. when i lunge him before i ride hes fine when you get on and that shows signs that one there is nothing wrong with his saddle and 2 he may be cold backed. but i dont undrer stand why he has started doing this now and not at his old yard. can a horse become cold backed???? also is there any way to solve a of a horse being cold backed????

me thinks he probably had an accident, bucking can be caused my a number of problems, maybe something wrong with his sheath or stifle? when you see rodeos, the put tight straps around their sheath area and thats why they bronch, so maybe it's around that area. i'd have a back specialist out straight away and have him checked by a vet or something. i had a bowen treatment with my horse, she showed no signs riding or on the ground that anything was wrong with her back, but she was slightly sore, maybe he is trying to be an honest horse by letting you get on, then finds it unbareable. still have him checked out, it's always worth it

ive had his teeth checked, all fine and his back is being checked on monday. im kinda hoping something fixable will be wrong so we can get over this, if he is cold backed any advice on improving it?
btw thanks for all your help and time writing to me

yer i see his previous owner nearly every weekend. shes as puzzled as i am. the thing is that we both no that this isnt like jack. hes calm and sweet and has just changed and goes a bit mad when i ride him. hes still a sweetheart on the ground!!

Just a wild guess if the lunging first knocks the stuffing out of him keep doing that for now if nothing else to give back your confidence. It may be he's getting more/better grass at the moment and so is going skitz. Combined with any other feed you may give him (which may be fully of sugar?) you're sitting on dynamite - best of luck

Hi
Ok, this is not a rare problem so the most important thing is to persist. I would do what others have suggested and lunge him before you ride him, have someone hold him whilst you mount (with a mounting block is ideal).

Keep his food low-energy, so hay, hi-fi (not alfa-a) etc that will also help to calm him down.

I am certain he will be fine once he has settled in.

my horse has cold back, i normally tack him up and leave him to adjust to the saddle for 10mins be for i get on. Might be worth having his back checked to be on the safe side.
