I bought my 16 year old pony 4 months ago, and he is lovely but has a few little quirks. When he arrived he was quite nappy which was understandable being in a totally new place with new people but I was able to get him out with some encouragement and this improved. However over the last couple of weeks we’ve taken a step back and I’m finding he’s becoming increasingly stressy when away from the other pony at the yard.
We are on small yard with one other pony who isn’t in work. The other pony has always been very stressy when I take my boy out (he gallops around the field and constantly calls). I’m now finding over the last couple of weeks my boy has started to become more reactive. He had been trying to tank off home (ridden or inhand), spinning and planting on hacks (even when out in company), going crazy in his stable if the other pony is out of sight and constantly calling. I’m getting quite disheartened
and upset that he feels so stressed. I've been doing a lot of groundwork with him and take him away from the other pony to groom, he’s also had everything checked. We are hoping to relocate this year so he will have to move but until then I’m not too sure what to do. Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.
