I have my first ridden show in a few weeks on my loan horse. I have pretty much got an idea for an individual show, but do I need to include canter? Her canter can be a bit wobbly and she has a cheeky tendency to strike off on the wrong leg! The show schedule doesn't specify.
Thank you!

What class are you doing? Most showing classes I've ever done have required canter both in the initial stage where you all ride round together as well as in the individual show.

I have judged at a novice show which had classes for beginners (horses/riders) which specifically said 'no cantering'. Some classes, which although still for novices, were for the more experienced, included canter. Otherwise you should expect to canter in your individual show, whatever the class.

A walk and trot class is just that - walk and trot.

A genetic Novice class will include a canter on both reins on the go round with everyone else. In your individual you are expected to canter on both reins and give a small extension of the canter. No need for a true gallop at that stage unless your horse is capable of it.
