Help with run away bitch.

We have two vizzies, Molly is 3 and Ginny 7 month old. In the past 2 weeks they have escaped from our field (8 acres) twice, but found them after 40 mins on the old airfield by our house. Then next time thurs night they went off for 3 hours, and at 11.30pm they returned home, with a small army of people searching for them. Sun they went off again this time missing for 2 hours, and were found heading home.
We have since then keeping them inside unless we are with them. It seems to be Molly who is going, and Ginny following. So yesterday i tied Molly up while i did the horses.
Last night me and OH went to his parents house and took the girls with us. We all (7 of us) walked across the lane, to the field opp the house (to see wedding marquee set up for fridays wedding) the girls ran past all of us, and shot off out of sight up the lane. Ive never seen two dogs run so fast, to the point non of use knew which way they had gone. Luckily friend passed in tractor and said they were heading for village, and saw him coming and turned into a field. We drove to field and shouted and they came back.
Me and OH are worried to death about them, and really cannot understand why they are doing this. Before anyone says it, we are going to secure our field asap, but we are more worried about the incident last night.

Any help at all please??
 
They were very good at recall, just seems the past two weeks? When they went last night, we shouted/ whistled and they just ignored it. Like they were after something, but nothing around to chase.

We used to take them on loads of walks only needing to put them on leads when we got on roads. Does this mean i will never be able to let them off leads again?

^^^ I would put some extra work in on a long line (whistle/treats) to better aid you, I would guess they are picking up a scent, I would also try one off at a time and find out if one is a runner and the other just following.
Re the field I would expect nothing less.
Make sure they are chipped and tags on at all times if your think this may happen again.
 
Cayla- Im 100% sure that Molly is the runner, and Ginny knows no better than to follow!
I want them to have free rein in the field, just not find a way out and off! Think you are right re scent, just gone in a flash. I will do work with recall, starting today. Whats the best treats to use, that they will WANT to come back for?!

Amymay- Mollys been spayed, Ginny is yet to come into season.

Tube of primula cheese or the arden grange liver paste in a tube:) let them have a little suckle for coming back.
I would long line, call name= treat= repeat= then add a whistle with their names, then take the name away and just use the whistle, maybe even start it indoors/garden before taking it to your field, make sure you have full recall on long line before attempting to let them off and don't be in a hurry to let them off (training and patience help) a squeeky toy may be their preferance.
Also recall then frequently and treat once you do let them off, let them jog a few meters away then recall, and never let them out of sight, as once gone (they are gone) as you know, always recall in good time, even if you don't need them back in the beginning it's just to keep them on their toes.

It won't be easy as if it is scent but training is better than keep tempting fate and them getting into a routine of bof off:p
My 2 scenters where really bad and it took 6 months to train the pointer who was on his 3rd home and was manically scent driven but it worked.
 
Thank you s much Cayla, will go and get some primula today and hit training hard. given me a real direction to g in, and will let you know how we get on.
 
Def only one at a time for now. I have found some dogs become more reliable in company and some far less so. The younger one is reaching adolescent stage so may be pushing the boundaries a bit and you don't want your older previously good one to take that on and run with it (sorry bad pun).
