My new ned has a Wintec ATM and I'm trying to save for a new saddle.

I have asked saddler to come and fit the wintec for me but she is V busy an
d it will be a little while. Until then can anyone let me know what I should be looking for? I have half an idea but I'm abit rubish

Not an expert - just some tips. If you stand behind ned in his saddle but no numnah, you should be able to see daylight through the gullet, ie it clears his spine all the way down. You should be easily able to slide your hand under the flaps next to his shoulder. The pommel and cantle should be horizontal. The saddle should not be too narrow at the wither so that it pinches the horse and the pommel is raised up, nor so wide that it flops down onto the withers (cantle raised) and rubs the horse. The body of the saddle should rest all along the horse's back with no "bridging". The best way I know to test this is (a) lift up the flaps and try to see if you can see daylight from one side of horse to the other or can wiggle your fingers through, or (b) put a clean white numnah on your ned under the saddle and ride ned lightly. Take numnah off and see if the pattern of sweat/dust/hairs is EVENLY spread over as much of the area as possible. This is very, very basic stuff just to give you an idea. You really do need a master saddle fitter.

Cooo...saw a thing on the web last week about putting talc on the horses back and then carefully putting saddle on top...talc will stick to saddle dependent on how it is sitting so you can see where it is only just touching, and where it is bridging...will also show up on horses back...not sure how you get all the talc out afterwards though

saddler is coming in about 4 weeks

I'd be very tempted to call out another, 4 weeks is too long. Additionally if you ever have a problem & need him out agaion it'll be another long wait. He can't be the only one around your area surely.
