I have an 11yro hackney X warmblood. He is in most ways completely perfect and I am thoroughly enjoying him. However, he has horrendous seperation anxiety and struggles to cope being alone. Due to this I can't hack out alone, or leave him in the stable without his companion. This on its own is manageable but we also have some arena problems. Our arena is down behind the sheep barns with no real view of the yard, you can see the fields, and see horses being turned in and out but not much else. He's fine schooling if nothing is moving, but the second another horse comes in or goes out he loses the plot. I've come off him twice now due to nappy behaviour.
He is improving daily and I'm working on building his confidence slowly and we will get there, but what I'm hoping is maybe a calming supplement may help. His problem is completly anxiety related rather than excitability, he's on a molasses free diet and a gastric supplement already and shows no other signs that point to ulcers.
Has anyone tried a supplement for a similar reason rather than excitement and had success?
