I have a 7 year old haflinger, who is very headstrong. He loves to jump however he is pulling and rushing towards jumps. He is also pulling towards the left side of the jump and not in the middle. If we are doing a double, he will rush towards the first one and then put his head down and canter off. He is in a dutch gag, second ring down. Any suggestions about bits or anything that could help is welcome. I have been doing different methods like poles infront of jumps and also trotting up to jumps and then halting afterwards. :)

I'm not a bitting expert but as I understand it a gag on anything other than the snaffle ring is going to exert pressure on the poll (top of head) and encourage his head to go down. So, it probably isn't what you want if his problem is putting his head down. Have you got an instructor who can advise on something more suitable?

On the pulling to the left is that the case whichever way round you are in arena? If so it sounds as though he may have a physical problem which could be something serious or could just be that he is a little lop sided the same as most people (e.g. we're mostly 'left/right handed' not both) and needs some suppling exercises. You probably need a vet to look at him in action to give an idea.

Jump, halt, polo mint/small piece carrot? Others will have much better idea on this than me.
