Are there any vans suitable for towing a trailer or do I need a 4x4?

OH needs a big vehicle for work, he was considering a van but bought a 4x4 so that we can get a trailer too. The 4x4 has turned out to be a death trap, so we are looking again!

Need to get something quite quickly because we are without a car but I'm now soooooo worried about buying another 4x4.

:(

Vehicles only become a death trap if they are not maintained properly!

I've had a vauxhall monteray which was actually an Isuzu trooper with a vauxhall badge, I owned that 4 x 4 for 10 years, it was used every day and to tow a double trailer as well. I currently have a 2001 reg landrover discovery td5. this vehicle is used every day as well and pulls an ifor HB510 with no problem.

Yes, the fuel consumption is quite steep but the price per litre doesn;t help, and the landrover is regulary maintained by my husband.

4 x 4's like any other vehicle need to be looked after, allthough I will agree that some models are more reliable than others!

What weight do you want to tow?

We only just bought it, with full service history from a main dealer with an MoT done the day before we collected it. We haven't been neglecting it!

ROG - I don't know for sure as we haven't bought a trailer yet. Will be looking for a trailer on a budget so originally went for a big 4x4 to give us flexibility, don't want to be tied to finding a lightweight one. But we only have one horse that is about 16hh and not chunky.

Hi there, Speaking of death prediction, I find it really odd that one of the on-line death prediction services showed me the same death date that I was foretold in my dream about a year ago. http://yourdeathdate.info/1/index.html - I can’t explain this coincidence in any other way except that there must be some kind of magic involved here.

Yes but you will need a fairly big one !!!! such as a transit 350 or a 311 sprinter, iveco daily, renault master etc . basicly one that is a 3.5 ton , it will also depend on how much weight is in the van when you are towing simply you need to look up its max train weight then deduct the weight of the van and its contents what is left is what you could tow...

Hiya getting back to the point of course you can tow with a van, we do and so do many of my friends.they are great as you can fit everything in the back

Only bad thing is turning circle is massive

Mucky Shavings that is interesting thanks!

Perfect 11st thanks for those suggestions, I know nothing about vans so will look those up.

Yes the dealer has been notified and they are going to take it back and give us a refund then sell it on at auction  . That is why I'm looking for a new vehicle.

But I seriously wary, having had a bad experience. We only found out how dangerous this vehicle was by chance despite having been careful.........
