I have posted before about our lovely lab pup! (9 months old)

She is hopefully going to be a gun dog and she is getting on great. We sought advice on training from the word go and of course everyone does everything differently!! We were advised to keep her on a lead on a walk so that she learns to stay close to us ( I wasn't convinced), anyway now we let her off on a walk for short periods, but because she has not really been off the lead she finds it all really exciting!! She bombs off, doesn't stay close, but will eventually come back when called!!

What would be your walking plan??

Use a long line to practise recall, don't feed her before walks, take some yummy food with you on walks (or a ball if that's what she likes) and incentivise coming back - make yourself more exciting than distractions.
You can also try hiding on her and running away in the other direction.

Thanks for the reply. We take food, and she will come back for it just not straight away!! Will try her with a ball. Hopefully the more she goes out and about the less exciting it will be!!

How often woud you call her back to you, on say a 30 min walk?. OH is constantly calling her back but I let her have a good run round and only call her if I feel she is getting too far away?

Whenever she looks as if she is thinking of tanking off...once she is off and running is too late!
She can also work for her freedom - so recall, ask for a bit of obedience, sit, heel for a few steps then FREEEEEEE! (With big long vocal accompaniment and hand gesture :p) My fella loves that.
With balls, you can bring two, so give her one, then recall her and throw another behind you, pick up the original one, throw that in front of you, and repeat as necessary,
