I'm aiming to do my first outdoor driving trial in August. All very exciting except there is a presentation element. People usually have specific carriages for this and really dress up in top hats the works. I dont have a specific carriage so will be doing it in my little red glitter and black marathon vehicle. If we dress in top hats we will look ridiculous but our usual get up of tshirts with team Leo written on arent going to cut it!

This is us normally

I need to find something for myself and my groom to wear that is smart and doesnt jar with the vehicle too much. I think I have black velvet hat I can dig out but I think I might have to buy an actual hat, hat. As driver I will have a long driving apron on.

I also need to spend as little as possible as this is an incredibly expensive event as it is, and if we continue I will need to buy another carriage for this part for next season. I'm planning trawling ebay and the local charity shops but I wanted an idea of where to start first as I resemble a tramp most of the time so this is far outside of my comfort zone!

If anyone is in the market for a kidney I shall shortly have one for sale to fund all of this!

I would try a similar look to the driver of the shetland, your black apron, a black hat with a red ribbon and a jacket in something lighter, possibly grey tweed, to break up the black, the back steps seem to be in something more practical so should be easy to kit out with black jods, smart gillet or jacket and normal riding hat.
Looks like a fun weekend ahead.

I'm hoping that my backstep will get away with a suit and a riding hat, with a red tie maybe. I really do not want to wear a silly hat, but I think needs must.

I would stick to black or navy trousers and jacket with say a red tie or you could get red shirts and wear a dark waistcoat then get a velvet silk to match for your riding hats, if short on funds buy cheap school shirts from the supermarket and dye them.

I'd just go with a cheap dark suit set up, with a red tie and your velvet hat if you can find it :), if velvet riding hats are fine for nationals they are definitely fine for club and similar for groom.

I agree with this and i think in the safety aspect if you wanted to wear your hat but put a black/navy silk over it then i think that would be fine.
