Hi, I'm a new member. I've got a 17hh IDXTB Gelding. Just moved to a new yard which has, a donkey and I'm not sure how to worm for the winter. Spoke to my vet who said Panacur equine guard would be a good option as it would cover lungworm risk from the donkey. Just looked it up and Panacur doesn't seem to cover tapeworm or bots so do I need to worm separately for that? and if so, what do people recommend? Where I was before I used a combination of equest / equest pramox and worm counting over the course of the year. Thanks in advance for any help xxxx

Bots are flies not worms so you can't worm count for those.

Panacur Guard will do the encysted redworm so that's a good wormer for winter.

Ivermectin wormers (eg equvalan, furexel, vectin, to name a few) will kill bots. I was always told Easter, mid-summer and Christmas was the time to worm for bots, but I guess its not the end of the world if you miss a go because you've wormed with something else instead. We can't be constantly throwing drugs down their throats can we.

Tapeworm there is a test for, blood test or saliva test I think. If you need to worm I was always told spring and autumn for tapeworms. Praziquantal works (eg equitape) or double dose pyrantal (eg strongid-p, pyratape).

Equimax contains praziquantal and ivermectin, so would do for Bots and tapeworm.
