My horse had a small lump removed from his side on 1st June. Although it wasn't cancerous, it was considerably bigger below the surface than the vet expected. The vet had originally said it would be fine to ride in 2 weeks but because of the position of it, its sit under my leg if I was riding. This resulted in a rather large hole in his side which thankfully is healing well and greatly reduced in size. The vet originally said it would be fine to ride in 2 weeks but because he had to cut so much out, it sits right under my leg if iI were to ride in a saddle. The remaining wound is now about the size of my thumb nail but just in a very annoying place. One inch further back and it wouldn't be an issue. I have been doing a combination of lunging, walking in hand and riding backpack over the last month. It keep scabbing over and then dropping off. I daren't use Manuka because it will attract flies and have just been putting wound powder on it to dry it out when the scabs comes off. I wondered if anyone had any magic tips for speeding up the process of healing? I was going to try some kind of pad over it but I think that would just rub it too. Maybe I just need to be more patient.
