Hi there
I have a lovely young horse on loan at the moment. I have ridden him at his old yard and he was completely fine however I went to get on him ,for the first time, the other day at my new yard and he went crazy and bucked me straight off. He was broken at the start of last year and is 5 years old, we are coming along nicely with handling etc and he is a joy to have in the yard.
I just feel a bit riddled with anxiety over what happened the other day, my confidence is a fragile thing and I dont want to ruin any potential bond me and my horse has by getting the next steps wrong. He is getting his back checked at the weekend and the lady that broke him is going to come and ride him after(she says this bucking is very unlike him), she is also going to give me a lesson if he is going well. Does anybody know of anybody in scotland who I can get out to help me train him and master our groundwork and build up trust with him? I just want to make sure I dont ruin my chances of having a partnership with my boy, once my confidence is completely gone I know I will be terrified to get on and I dont want this to happen.
Any advice is very appreciated.
Thanks

Honestly I really don't think that a young horse is what you need since you say that your confidence is fragile. Young horses need to get confidence from their riders / handlers, and a less confident rider needs to get confidence from trust in their horse. However sensible they are young horses are always less predictable than 'made' horses. As he is a loan I would send him back and look for something more suitable. There is really no point in paying a fortune to have pros train someone else's horse when you could be out having fun on a lovely school master / mistress. Sorry to be so direct, but really this should be fun, not something that makes you anxious.
