Its not looking good - I think I may be getting tempted to keep the project :) He is just the most fun little horse to have about and he absolutely surpassed my expectations today . We went to have a little jolly out to somewhere that wasn't a racecourse and he was a superstar :) We went to do a little walk and trot test and he was happy to walk away from the others we went with,straight into a spooky indoor school,happyto work on his own ,happy to walk into the test arena and then stood by the box waiting for the others with not so much as a murmur. So grown up for a baby :) :)
 
Haha!! I bought a project in April and am having the same problem. She is a star (currently in horsepital as had an operation yesterday to remove a sinus cyst). Straight out of racing, went and did a walk and trot dressage a week later and won....had never been on the roads, yet hasn't batted an eyelid at anything and conformation to die for. ( I would say looks to die for, but as she has just had half her face chiselled out for this op, I'm thinking she won't look quite so pretty when she first comes home!),
I can't really afford to keep her, but I am trying to justify it by
a: not drinking (well apart from the couple of glasses tonight)
b: never going out ever again
c: I don't have children and I'm sure that if I did, childcare would cost far more than keeping a horse
d: cancelled gym membership.
On the plus side, my OH really likes her and his reaction yesterday when I told him I couldn't sell her in the near future as I would have to let her face heal up was "Well, never mind, we'll manage, she needs some TLC first". Yay, Yay!!!
 
Mines a racer as well - he is just so fab . Says something when your 3.5 year old is better to take places than your 9 year old :) What I really need is the babys personality in the 9 year olds body - then I would have my perfect horse :)
 
Too many people are quick to write off ex-racers, and while I know you can get loony tunes, any trainer who is any good will tell you if they are known to be dangerous. My new one is 8, but she hadn't done anything til she was 6, so she is still green in schooling, but I don't mind that. I enjoy working on the schooling.....good luck with yours. He sounds lovely....x
