I'm a freelance RI, and school/compete horses for their owners. I'll do the questions working on what I charge etc.

Q1: No, but I ride people's horses for them.

Q2: Depends on the owner, some I ride daily (based at my yard), others once a week/fortnight.

Q3: Depends on the horse, I allow and hour, but if the horse has done well I will do a bit less, if there is a problem I will do more.

Q4: I charge £20 a session regardless of what I do with the horse. When competing the owner pays all entries and transportation costs, I then charge £15+ depending what kind of competition it is, how many horses I have there competing, how far away it is etc.

Q5: When competing at SJ (for example) i'll charge £15 for the first class, then £10 for subsequent classes for that horse. If a horse comes to my yard it is £120 a week including 5 schooling/exercise sessions and full livery, including feed and bedding. I also generally charge my liveries less competition fees etc.

Q6: I event at BE Intermediate level, and CCI*. I have sj'ed to Foxhunter, and dressage to Advanced medium.

Q7: BHS stages 1,2 and 3 horse care and riding. Plus I am a BHS AI on the BHS register of Instructors.

Q8: If you have only ridden at local level, with no qualifications I think £20 for 30 mins is VERY expensive. That is twice what I charge!

Q9: TBH I don't think you could charge much to school, and it may not be financially viable once you have factored in insurance, travel costs/ own arena maintence.

Q10: October until after Christmas is quiet as eventers normally have a bit of a holiday. January, through to October is the time when it is busy!

Hope that helps!

Bump :)

And just to clarify as I had a bit of crit on the question where I asked if my price was reasonable, he was fully backed by the end of august 2009 and I got him early september 2009, didnt jump him until February 2010 so he was in full fitness and going well on the flat before I jumped him, I realised that it could come across as if I got him and started jumping him as a just backed 4 year old which I didnt, sorry for any confusion
