Hi all I'm new! And already asking for help! Can anyone suggest a way of tackling huge confidence issues? I have tried several things including hypnotherapy but instead of getting better I think it is getting worse! So much so that even handling my horses is becoming scary. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Is it ridden confidence issues? Do you have a friend who you really trust who can help with the handling side or just be on the ground/hack out with you and keep you calm? :)

It is ridden but also, just lately, handling as well! Have gone from the type of person that would ride anything to a trembling wreck. I have got a friend that I have hacked out with but even then I'm still nervous! I haven't ridden for the last year or so due to having my son!!! I know a lot of people say that having children makes you more cautious but this is silly! I'm almost too scared to work with my daughters 11.2!!!! I get so angry with myself and feel that people must think I'm stupid. Sorry I'm ranting

I throw this out as a possibility, but I think that for awhile after you have a child there is some hormonal thing going on that makes you timid. I certainly noticed it after I had my children. It passes.
I would go easy on yourself for awhile. See where your boundaries are - how involved can you be until you start panicking. Can you groom your horse/pony in the box or does that make you nervous? In that case, can you feed it a carrot outside the box? Do you see where I am going with this? Find your comfort zone with your equines and then move very slowly to expand it - for example, when you stop panicking when grooming, try leading; when comfortable with that, try ground work, etc. Also, just try to relax about it; you were brave around horses once, and I am sure that will return.
Good luck.

Bug2007 - I'm near to Cannington in Somerset.
jaquelin - good advice, I didn't seem to have the "problem" after having my daughter but I think it's been creeping up over the years!!!
I've got the farrier coming tomorrow and already I'm getting nervous/worried about it

Been to have a few lessons and that was good but I need to work with my own horse! So need a freelance instructor - any Somerset peeps out there that can recommend one??? :)
