I bought a 7 year old warmblood 7 months ago. He was slightly poor when I got him and unfit. He is now fully fit and has put weight on. For 6 months he has been the perfect horse before his behaviour started to deteriorate.
He can began to buck which then lead to bucking and then setting off at full pace. On the last occasion I rode him he reared and set off again and I came off.
I had his teeth done and physio and all fine.
I noticed he was then a bit sensitive around his girth area and had him scoped for ulcers. He was given the all clear.
He has been good to hack and fine on the lunge. It’s when I get on in the school it’s the problem.
I’ve now sent him to a professional for schooling and he says he is back is up as in cold back and he is grumpy and nappy to ride. He doesn’t believe he has kissing spine as not sensitive to the usual tests.
I’m completely at a loss as he was a complete sweetheart for 6 months but his whole personality has changed.
Do you think this is simply behavioural or it could be pain?
Any suggestions most welcome.
