Hi, I'm after some help please... We have bought a 3/4 Deerhound 1/4 Greyhound, he is 9 weeks old... What age will he gain the long scruffy Deerhound look??

Because he is a cross he may not have a broken coat. We have bread lurchers from a broken coated dog and smooth coated bitch and have had a mixed litter.

I'm sure pictures would help ?

If he ain’t got it now, he isn’t going to have it.....

That sort of cross can throw smooth coats just as well as rough coats, but they are clear from an early age - I saw my rough coated pup at 6 weeks and he was already well coated, the smooths weren’t

Oh I dont know my terrier looked like a rotty puppy until he was about 6 months then all of a sudden his coat broke and these long legs sprouted knee fur (yes knee fur!) and he's been a broken coat ever since!

Even though there is cases like Ranyhyn's terrier, as far as I know, they're rare exceptions, so I can only ditto what Levrier, and Welsh Dragon, said. If he doesn't already show signs of a scruffy coat, he is highly unlikely to develop one.

But also since he's a cross, even if he has a scruffy coat, there is no guarantee that it will grow out to look exactly like a purebred Deerhounds scruffy coat. Also remember that even though their bodies grows like weed, and that he will probably have reached his adult height when he's around 1 year old, both his body, and brain, will still have a bit of maturing left to do.
