Hi everyone. I need your help/advice. I have become aware of a website that sells horrific horse abuse videos. These videos are sold for a disgusting fetish! The horses are whipped till they have severe marks, bleeding mouths, huge wounds from the spurs and they are tied up and whipped/kicked. This abuse isn't filmed in this country, but I've turned detective and found out where it is filmed and the people responsible. The problem is the organisations/charities I've contacted haven't been any help. Any ideas?

This is disturbing.
Which charities have you contacted?

Severe animal abuse is normally taken very seriously by major animal charities so i suggest contacting the biggest charities, and the police, as this is criminal behaviour too.

Sicko isn't it. I've never heard of it before but the things that some will do for entertainment never ceases to surprise and disgust.

Can you say which country? Maybe one of us has some contacts there, or speaks the language so we can contact local charities more easily.

Thanks for your replies everyone. It is so bad. I can post pictures on here so you can see what I mean but they are disturbing. It is in Venezuela. I've contacted World Horse Welfare, PETA and a couple that I could find in Venezuela. I don't speak Spanish so can't contact the police over there and the police here won't be any use. Despairing as I've been trying to get it stopped for so long and don't know what to do.

Follow up with WHW and Peta about your reports, ask what is being done, ask them who else to report it to.

If Peta have ‘proof’ via pictures/videos/web ring of abuse - they’ll normally run with it.

I would also contact my home country police to enquire how they can help with international police authority channels.

I would also write a small article of details , with pictures/video/proof to the daily mail online, telegraph etc...i’d basically swamp the media internet to raise awareness of the issue, so they can report it widely.

Cases like this are exposed big time online, via media authorities, which gets public attention and support to push the relevent authorities into doing their jobs and stopping barbaric behaviour.

Dont post the content on animal lovers websites, as we are powerless too - give the content to all authorities who have POWER to report it widely, pressuring the relevant authorities to actually DO something to stop it.

Hashrouge on here speaks Spanish, as do I, but I suspect her Spanish is better than mine! She has been to South America so probably speaks much better Latino Spanish than me.

Thank you so much for your helpful suggestions everyone. PETA got a translator and contacted the local police, who told them to contact the fire department! They also reached out to animal welfare organisations in the country but had no reply. I've contacted a couple of newspapers and heard nothing back, emailed the Venezuelan embassy, contacted an attorney that is big on animal welfare over there. I was on a Discord group and we all contacted PayPal (they are used as a means of payment on the website where the videos are sold) as well as the hosting company of the website. All of these things have come to nothing. I really appreciate your help though and will try other things. Just wondered if public pressure could get them to stop?

Interpol says to approach police in your own country first:
https://www.interpol.int/What-you-can-do/If-you-need-help

https://api.worldanimalprotection.org/country/venezuela#Sentience

Maybe try SOS Animal Rescue on this page. They might be a start even if they are not focused on horses.
Really wish you good luck with this.

It sounds like many avenues of trying to get this practiced exposed, is falling on deaf ears Of the authorities whos job it is to stop such criminal activity.

Celebrity exposure is the next step. If a celeb tweets this - it’ll go viral.
Joaquin Pheonix is an animal lib. Guy...he’s been to animal liberation vegan protests in london in recent years.
(google other vegan/vegetarian/peta associated celebs)
There’s that horsey celeb woman from the uk....she’s in the tabloids a lot...katy something...she’s active on social media.

Im not aufait with celeb circles much nor use social media like fb, twitter, insta.

If he has instagram/twitter and you’re able to send a private message to them via your twitter/instagram...? Or maybe its best to write a succinct banner post, and tweet it/share it with these celebs.

Something like:
”Sick people online paying for horses to be abused!
They’re buying pictures and videos of abused horses!
They use paypal - paypal don’t care!
We must stop this!
Authorities not taking this seriously!
Share this so the authorities take it seriously!”

Im not sure if adding a picture to the post would help, it would shock and disturb people, some need to see it to DO something about it.

If that post gets shared by celebs over social media, then soon enough the media will pick it up to, and then once its out in the open of everyone’s awareness, the international animal charities and venezualan police will be ordered to investigate from their ’higher up bods’. Paypal will also be shamed by the post.

Share it with elon musk while youre at it - paypal was his baby at one point, not sure if it still is..?

Another one to try if you have not already.
This group *used* to operate in Venezuela but don't now, unfortunately.
Searching "Sharon Nunez animal equality" should get you her LinkedIn page

"Animal Equality advocates for animals in the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and India. They conduct undercover investigations and promote them online and through media outlets, occasionally pressing charges against animal abusers discovered through the investigations. Animal Equality also conducts grassroots outreach, including leafleting, organizing protests, and social media outreach. In 2016, they developed a new outreach program intended to convey the experiences of farmed animals using virtual reality technology. Animal Equality recently launched a corporate outreach department and works with corporations to adopt better animal welfare policies and ban particularly cruel industry practices. They also conduct legal outreach in Mexico, India, and at the European Union, and support legislation initiatives in the U.S."

Sharon Núñez
is the co-founder and President of Animal Equality
"The organization also closed their branch in Venezuela a while ago, which Núñez believes turned out to be a sensible decision. Their analysis had shown a lot of political conflict and social unrest in the country, and since then the situation has only become worse. However, the former Executive Director still supports the organization with writings and work in Latin America."

Another one: from
https://endtrophyhuntingnow.com/2014/02/10/instructions-for-reporting-animal-abusers-to-interpol/

"If I see animal cruelty on the Internet, what should I do?
Immediately contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), a partnership between The FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center, at http://www.ic3.gov/

The website will direct you to the page where you can file your complaint. At first glance, it may appear that the website will only consider complaints of Internet monetary fraud. However, IC3 is the proper venue for all Internet crimes, including animal abuse.

IC3 can best process your complaint if the information you provide is as detailed and complete as possible. This includes providing the complete URL [website address] for the website that displayed the suspected animal cruelty.

Even if you are located outside the United States, IC3 will review your report as long as the suspected abuser is located in the United States."

Edited to add, ah sorry didn't see the
last bit. But will leave it up.

Is it a whole website or just a part of one? Do they have any social media?

The website sells all sorts of videos and the 'hard riding' is just one part of it. They are a really dodgy site though.

Thank you. Those are really helpful suggestions, I appreciate it. I just need that one celeb/organisation to take notice and, like you say, it would soon get so much exposure. Raleigh (riding blogger from the US) did a video on the whole weird riding fetish thing but she didn't go into specifics. I messaged her but she hasn't seen it or just didn't reply. I won't give up though.

I am happy to translate for you if needed Lottie12 - it looks like GreyMane has given you lots of avenues to go down.

Unfortunately Venezuela is not in a good state at the moment and is probably one of the worst countries for you to try and do anything about this. Politically it has been very unstable for a number of years (it looked like they were heading for a revolution at one point in 2019) and it is rife with economic problems, chronic shortages of goods and medicines and there is a lot of poverty and human suffering. I suspect your best bet is to find a good charity that has law enforcement connections and might be able to get something done about this. Just reaching out to the police randomly (as you have seen) is unlikely to be successful.

Thank you for your reply and suggestion. I'll definitely keep trying all the charities I can think of. I hoped World Horse Welfare might be useful but they told me they don't work in Venezuela. Though I reported a cruelty case in Ireland to them too and they said they don't work there either! Yeah it will be really difficult with the situation there at the minute. I won't give up though.
