i know you will think i am thick but do you use a double bridle with a Rugby Pelham? Or can you use a snaffle bridle?

should i got for a Rugby pelham or a double bit for show classes ( Riding horse)

thanks

You use a double bridle as you need the extra sliphead for the "loose ring". Normal bridle for a normal pelham.

And either, depends which the horse goes better in.

I was always taught that to be correct a Rugby Pelham should be used with a sliphead attached to the snaffle (loose) ring. This makes it look much more like a double bridle and also stops the snaffle ring dropping down so therefore give a clearer aid to the horse.

That said more often than not you see this bit used without a sliphead which in my opinion looks untidy and incorrect and you might as well just use a normal pelham on your normal bridle!

As for which bit to go for depends on your horse, if you dont normally use a bit with a curb then make sure you introduce it at home well in advance of the show you intend to use it at. Also depends on what level of showing you are doing, personally if it is local level and my horse was happier in a snaffle then that is what I would use, might be frowned upon as "incorrect" but I am beyond caring.
