I haven't done it yet but it is on my 'to do' list. I was thinking of getting an old metal locker type box, drilling holes in the top for the fence wire, and in the base for battery/earth/drainage wires, then chaining the whole thing to a wooden fence post. It would slow the thieves down I reckon.

Run a ground wire from a lockable room to the fence line - that's what I do. You can find the wires reasonably cheap on ebay

Police recommend that you write postcode all over it and deface it as harder for thieves to sell on.

unfortunately there have been incidents in our area and also a well locked trailer and a generator have been stolen too.

Exactly! Find your nearest stockist of fencing materials, find an NZ company called Gallagher, and buy yourself a length of what's known as "underground cable". It isn't expensive.

Strip off the last 3 inches, twist it TIGHTLY around your fence, and then feed out the remainder of the cable, to where you've hidden your unit and battery.
